Web Design Stuff That Matters in 2024
Things change fast online. Here’s what’s working right now if you don’t want your site looking dated.
Dark Mode
Yeah, it’s still a thing. Turns out people weren’t just being trendy – dark backgrounds are genuinely easier on your eyes and your phone battery. Plus it looks sharp. If you run a photography site or portfolio, definitely add this.
3D Elements
Not the gimmicky garbage from years ago. I’m talking about being able to spin a product around and look at it from different angles, or pages that move in cool ways when you scroll. Done right, it’s slick. Done wrong, it’s just annoying.
Small Animations
Buttons that react when you hover over them, little checkmarks that pop up, loading bars – all that stuff. Sounds minor but it makes your site feel responsive instead of dead.
Voice Search
More people are asking Alexa or Siri to find stuff instead of typing it out. If your site isn’t optimized for that, you’re basically invisible to those searches. Something to think about.
Eco-Friendly Design
Using hosting that doesn’t suck up tons of energy, compressing your images so pages load faster – it helps the planet and makes your site better at the same time. Easy choice.
Simple Layouts
Stop cramming every possible thing onto your homepage. White space is your friend. Make it clean, make it easy to read, get rid of the junk.
Personal Touch
Show people different stuff based on where they are or what they’ve clicked on before. Nobody wants the same generic experience as everyone else.
That’s It
Don’t do all of this just because I said so. Pick what actually helps your visitors and makes sense for what you’re selling.
More next week.
